Dr. Barbu has worked at Fruitport Animal Hospital since July of 2019.  She graduated from veterinary school at Michigan State University in 2011.  She began her career as a large animal veterinarian in Lakeview, MI for three years, but decided to take some time off from work to stay home with her two daughters.  Dr. Barbu grew up in Spring Lake, MI and in 2018 her family moved back to her hometown where both her and her husband decided to pursue a career in small animal medicine.  She is very passionate about caring for companion animals and is also interested in learning more about exotic pets.  Dr. Barbu loves the outdoors, she enjoys camping, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her husband, two daughters, and their dog Blue.

  • Jan Walsh, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Acupuncturist

After receiving my BS degree in Zoology from the University of Florida, I taught junior high school science for a while.  I moved to Michigan in 1972 to be an organic farmer.  In 1985 I entered Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1989, 2 months shy of my 43rd birthday.  In the fall and winter of 1999/2000 I took the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society's acupuncture course and have been practicing acupuncture on dogs and cats since then (with the occasional rabbit, also).  I do not practice Oriental medicine, which is an herbal medicine, but use the acupuncture as an adjunct to my Western medicine.  Therefore, I treat orthopedic problems almost exclusively.  Since retiring from general practice in January, I now work Tuesdays here at Fruitport Animal Hospital exclusively practicing acupuncture.  I also do occasional relief work here and elsewhere.  I love working at the Fruitport Animal Hospital.
